The
importance of a Home Visit cannot be over emphasized! Dog
training begins at home which is why I start with a home consultation in order to put
down a
foundation on which you and your dog can build. It is vital to establish a doggy routine around the home and to make sure that this is understood by all parties involved. That means the owner and family, and, most importantly, the dog. This routine needs to be formulated in such a way that, first and foremost, it is clearly understood by the dog. The rules we need to establish often don't come naturally to human owners who naturally want to establish "human" values. Often such ideas are misunderstood by our canine friends, leading to alienation and a variety of behavioral problems which could so easily be avoided if a dog's basic, intuitive instincts are taken into account. We often try to treat our animals as though they are fellow human beings with an innate understanding of the English language. This leads to confusion on the part of the animal and frustration for the owner. An informed and knowledgeable owner will understand therefore that trying to instill human values can lead to behavioural problems. Care needs to be taken in the choice of toys; where the animal is fed (and how....and when!) as well as where he sleeps and how he is exercised. Did you know that some ways in which we might show our love and affection towards our dogs can be seen as a weakness? Do you appreciate why we use dog bowls.... or why dogs need stimulation as part of the feeding process? Dogs share 98% of their genes with the wolf, and it's this dominant ancestral behavior which has established the rules over thousands of years and which needs to be appreciated by the human members of the pack in order to live in harmony with the domestic dog. I can, through a home visit, teach you that appreciation. The
aim of my visit is to impart this knowledge in a simple and easily understood
way, so that you can start interacting with your dog immediately. Together we
can avoid or correct all the mistakes which uninformed owners make from the
outset. Many owners have commented during my visit that it is just common sense!
Someone however needs to feed you that sense before it becomes common. Don't
underestimate your dog - I have never met a dim, stupid, thick, idiot dog or one that was unable to learn
whatever age or sex. |

Does your dog: -lay in places where you have to step
over or walk around him? You may think you are top dog but how much dog talk do you really understand? Who said let sleeping dogs lie? Do we/should we listen? My home visits are intended to help you understand just these sorts of behaviour. |
